Top Tips To Stop Procrastinating-Part 1

In this series I will cover super easy and fast methods I have come across to crush the awful merry go round of procrastinating that lets face it we all go through. Even these people donning the covers of magazines face procrastination. After all we are human! It is a ever present evergreen issue for a reason.

Top Tips To Stop Procrastinating-Part 1

Break it down into a tini tiny au derves. The smallest action conceivable. An example is if you really want to write a novel. Thinking about the amount of pages or the hundreds of hours needed to be put in will seem way too hard and will put most of from even starting. If however you say “I will write two crappy pages per day’ these small successes are enough to motivate us to get into the habit. A key is to be hyper specific and have a timeline, saying I will commit to doing two crappy pages per day, weekdays only, for the next 90 days. You may not use them, but at least you are doing the do.

BJ Fogg has completed a lot of research for Stanford University and he has talked about doing less than you are capable of doing. When something is too big, intimidating or too much of a pain in the ass. Lets use a simple example of flossing our teeth, something no one really loves doing. If you say o.k I’m going to floss just my front two teeth, three little gaps, that’s all you are going to do. Then also make it as easy as possible, use a water pick or disposable flossing gadgets so you need to tourniquet your fingers.

Another example is the prolific music producer Rick Ruben when he is working with music artists he will give them tiny homework assignments. If he has a stuck artist he will say can you get me one word or one line that you might like for this song we are working on by tomorrow, is that possible. Neil Strauss an award winning writer for The New York Times talks about writers block and setting standards way to high. Do not say I am going to write 2000 words. You will create performance anxiety. Go back to the two crappy pages per day.

Another example could be with exercise. People set goals especially around New Years saying I’m going to smash it, I will do an hour a day, 6 days per week. If you are going from doing no exercise. Start by committing to 5-10mins 3 days per week.

With all these examples setting these macro goals will get us showing up, and often once started we naturally want to do more.

I hope you have enjoyed this first installment of Top Tips To Stop Procrastinating?

I would love to know your thoughts in the comments. Have you ever had similar experiences?

Bum Steers-The Founder Movie

The Founder Movie

Showing you how Macca’s was founded, this movie was thoroughly enjoyable from my point of view. One of the two brothers who actually founded the first McDonald’s restaurant states in the film “There is a wolf in the hen house…& we let him in” That wolf goes on to claim he was The Founder & takes all the glory for the formula the two brothers worked so hard to perfect. In the defence of the wolf, Ray Kroc (played by Michael Keaton) he did work his ass off to elevate the chain from coast to coast with over 1600 restaurants founded and managed to overcome hurdles such as major financial struggles and unexpected costs such as running the huge walk in fridges to hold ice-cream and milk for the milkshakes.  Going from a door to door milkshake mixer salesman to lay the foundations of one of the worlds biggest corporations is inspiring, in my opinion. Ultimately Ray Kroc pulls the rug from under the real founders and even opens a Macca’s directly opposite the first ever, and makes the brothers take their own surname off the original.

Although at times I felt for the brothers I could not help but root for Ray Kroc to overcome adversity and grow the hell out of his dream. If there is one word to come out of this film it is ‘Persistence.’ In the film, The Founder, Ray is listening to a fictional recording called “Power of the Positive” by a fictional author named Dr. Clarence Floyd Nelson. It was created for the film specifically and there are no other references to it in other popular media. It states something along the lines of; Nothing in the world can replace the power of persistence. Talent wont… Genius wont… education wont, the world is full of educated fools. Persistence and determination alone are all powerful. That human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind. Other reviews were far from glowing but I really enjoyed this movie I will say 4 out of 5.

Best Bum Steers-Masterminds Movie

Masterminds Movie

It is very hard to believe this is a true story. I have a strong feeling the Director/Producers, or who ever was in charge of this flick were using creative license to the max. That said it was an enjoyable, hysterical movie about a bunch of odd balls that pulled off the biggest heist in American history…17 MILLION DOLLARS.

The main character played by Zach Galifianakis the dude who plays Fat Jesus in The Hangover is an intelligent guy that does not seem to have a social skill in his body. Due to that fact and also his major crush on his co-worker gets roped into helping some unsavory characters rip off his workplace. Which happens to hold a sh%t tonne of money. I feel like this movie could have gone too silly if the likes of Adam Sandler and his cronies were in charge of making it. However in my opinion it was done well and if you feel like a knee slapping time on the couch and seeing loosely how the biggest heist in U.S. history went down check out ‘Masterminds
